Not just a cooking freak :-)

In my early teens, I picked up the nickname Betty Goodwrench. I had the know-how and desire to go out change an alternator, pull the plug in an oil pan, or change a head gasket on a vehicle. Then go inside and cook a dinner or simply bake a pan of homemade cinnamon rolls. Just tonight, I helped my dad pull the side of the engine off to change the timing chain in my husband’s car. While at the same time that I love the life of being the woman of the house, I like to let the inner tomboy out in me and get dirty too. I like to cook a good meal in the evening for the family. I used to make everyone sit at the dinner table and have family dinner together. I feel that is a healthy practice to get into. With college, I have slacked at that quite a bit, because all of my classes have been in the evening and or I would be cramming in homework at the same time. On the nights that I have class I leave the cooking to my husband, Jason. That usually means that it will be a pizza night. I personally do not eat pizza so when they get the chance to have it Jason and the kids (Jaiden and Taylor) jump on it. I know they look forward to those nights of pizza and quality time with dad. This next week I am hoping to get the chance to try out the pasta making and being able to share those experiences with you.

  1. This is funny. I am the same with the tearing of the car apart. My mom calls me her son sam. My mom likes the tomboy in me because when something goes wrong she calls me first. The only difference we have is that I don't like to cook. I too do spend alot of time on homework. I guess that what we have to do. Did you get the timing chain fixed?

    1. Unfortunately no! We had everything lined up and turned the crank by hand and it jumps four links on the timing chain within its round. We are now going to look at the camshafts because we think one might be free rolling. We have a very experienced friend coming over tonight to take a look himself after work. Luckily this semester we do not have conflicting schedules with classes. So we do not have to be in a rush to get something figured out.

  2. The statement "I would go out change an alternator, pull the plug in an oil pan, or change a head gasket." needs revision to make sense. In "...pull the side of the engine of to change" 'of' should be 'off.' The statement "Which I am completely ok with because I do not like pizza so we do not have a pizza night here." is very confusingly worded. I am unsure of its intended meaning. In the statement "In many ways, I know they look forward to those nights as well as the three of them love it." the pronoun 'them' lacks context. In other words, the reader doesn't know who they [them] are without some help. One would likely conclude the references is to the 'three' - your husband and children, presumably, but it's not as clear as it could be.

    1. I fixed some of the wording in this post. With the insight you are giving us into our blog's, is this what you are wanting us to do?

  3. I love your blog topic, Mandie. I really look forward to you sharing those healthy food recipes with us. I need them in my arsenal of good food to eat for my journey to getting healthy. I like the fact that you have used food to bond and bring family together. I feel that it is important that families have dinner together, and it seems like it is a thing of the past, for most families. I have an inner tomboy in myself as well. I can change an alternator or a thermostat myself. I have not attempted the hard stuff, like an engine or timing chain. The most I have done with an engine was when I was 13; I helped my brother carry an engine block. He never messed with me after that! I look forward to reading your blog; it kind of has been taking me back to my childhood. Have fun posting!

    1. I am glad that you like my blog. You have challenged me into creating more healthy recipes to post on here. Which is not at all a bad thing. I will do my best to be more on the healthy side of things. However, I love my desserts and appetizers as well, so I hope to not dissapoint. One of my next projects I am wanting to make is a homemade chicken noodle soup with the egg noodles I just made tonight. I just love the taste of fresh vegetables rather than canned. I hope you continue to enjoy reading.
